A Beloved Teacher in Erie, Colorado
Hello, friends! Welcome to another story about the wonderful people who make Colorado such a special place. I'm Rachel Folger from The Folger Group by RE/MAX Vista, and today, we’re diving into the heartwarming history of Mrs. Ellen Romig Regnier, a beloved first-grade teacher in Erie, Colorado. Joining me is Betsey Beamer, a current first-grade teacher at Erie Elementary School. Betsey has been teaching here for 23 years, and my kids think she's the coolest ever!
Meet Mrs. Regnier
Mrs. Ellen Romig Regnier was an incredible teacher who began her journey in education back in 1927. She attended teaching college in Greeley and started teaching in Gold Hill, Colorado. Imagine what classrooms were like back then! There weren’t any of the modern amenities we have today, but Mrs. Regnier knew that the most important part of teaching was connecting with her students and pouring love into her work.
In 1940, Mrs. Regnier started teaching first grade at the Lincoln School in Erie. She continued to teach there for an amazing 22 years. Even though she didn’t have fancy technology, she kept detailed lists and photos of each of her students. Isn’t that amazing?
A Lasting Legacy
Mrs. Regnier’s impact went far beyond the classroom. She inspired her students to love learning and to cherish their community. Many of her students stayed in Erie for their entire lives. That’s how much she influenced them!

Ellen’s Personal Story
After teaching in Erie, Ellen Romig Regnier moved back to Gold Hill, Colorado. She lived out her days there, always carrying the love of teaching and music in her heart. Ellen also played the piano every Sunday at the Erie United Methodist Church. She was truly a remarkable woman.
